Honduras legal case over 2009 coup

Human Rights Watch claims that Honduras has failed to bring to justice those responsible for the serious human rights violations committed in the aftermath of the June 2009 coup d’etat. The declaration cites a lack of cooperation by security forces and a compromised judiciary as key obstacles that human rights prosecutors face in their efforts to achieve accountability. Thus, no one has been held criminally responsible for any of the human rights violations committed and victims of human rights abuses committed after the coup have been unable to find justice. This article stresses the importance of prosecution and reparation as two important strategies of transitional justice in rebuilding social trust and stability.
